The ancient Greeks used marble extensively in their architecture. Marble adds beauty to your home in a natural way. Honed marble has a matt finish. This is achieved by stopping just short of the last stage of polishing. Honed marble does not show etching as readily or wear patterns on floors.
True geological marble is limestone that has been subjected to great pressure and heat, which has changed its structure to a crystalline, sugary texture with some veining and colour provided by other minerals. Quarrying marble usually comes from Greece, Spain or Italy. Marble is porous and the surface is more vulnerable to household acids like vinegar, citrus and beetroot. Due to marble being porous, is not recommended for benchtops. It is ideal in bathrooms where there is less likelihood of staining. Caring for marble is easy. Warm water, mild dishwashing liquid and a soft cloth is the best way, then buff with a dry cloth to finish.
